About Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth

In 2023, Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth became the queer Asian American and Filipina elected to Chicago’s City Council, as well as the first queer woman of color to represent the 48th Ward. She is a member of both the AAC and the council’s LGBTQ caucus, and ran on a platform centering community care, which upheld health, housing, and safety as human rights.

A longtime small business owner and community organizer, Manaa-Hoppenworth is the owner of Chicago Dance Supply, the co-founder of Indivisible Illinois, the founder of ILVOTE, the former director of operations for the Illinois chapter of the Women’s March on Washington, and a former board member of the Chicago Tap Theater, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theater, and Jones College Prep Local School Council. Prior to taking office in the Chicago City Council, she was most recently a board member of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, which recognized her for her work as co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee with the Kurt Mathiasson Award for community leadership in 2022.
