About Nabeela syed


At 23, Nabeela Syed made history as the youngest member and one of the first-ever Muslim and South Asian members elected to the Illinois General Assembly in the 2022 midterms. Representing the 51st District, she sits on the Health & Human Services Appropriations, Child Care Access & Early Childhood, Cities & Villages, Economic Opportunity & Equity, and Prescription Drug Affordability Committees. 

A Palatine native, Syed served as the Campaign Manager for current Township High School District 211 School Board Member Tim McGowan. She has also worked for the Asian American Advocacy Fund and EMILY’s List to raise campaign funds for Democrats, and as a consultant for small businesses. She is also active in her religious community at the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs and is a strong advocate for promoting interfaith dialogue and empowering young Muslim women to lead. Her policy priorities include clean energy, reproductive rights, and affordability and accessibility in public education and health care.
