About RAM VILLIVALAM


In 2019, Sen. Ram Villivalam became the first Asian American elected to the Illinois State Senate and the first Indian American elected to the Illinois General Assembly. He currently chairs the state’s Transportation Committee and also sits on the Energy and Public Utilities, Healthcare Access and Availability, Human Rights, Licensed Activities, and Pensions Committees. He is the Chair of the Asian American Caucus. 

Before the 2018 election, Villivalam worked as a legislative coordinator for SEIU Healthcare, where he advocated to protect Medicaid, child care for working families, and home care for seniors and people with disabilities. He was also formerly the director of outreach for the U.S. House of Representatives, the president of the Indo-American Democratic Organization (IADO), and the director of the Board of Gun Violence Prevention PAC. His policy priorities include tax fairness, equity in education, healthcare, and gun regulation.
